Michael Is a Star!

// January 30th, 2009 // No Comments » // Grub

Bless his heart!  Michael has taken over some of the cooking this week because I’ve been a little overwhelmed.  Sunday he made a roast with lots of wonderful potatoes and carrots and served it with some pan gravy over pasta.  Oh, it was so good!

Then last night he did a vegetarian chili in the slow cooker.  He really out did himself this time though!  And I was so completely proud because he confessed that he substituted and added items to the recipe as he liked.  That is exactly what cooking to me is – taking a recipe and your gut feeling and just going with it! It was so good, I burned my tongue gobbling it up. Ha!  Below is a picture of the chili with big chucks of red bell pepper and jalapeno.  So good!

A Special Treat

Michael recently bought the Personal Trainer Cooking for his Nintendo DS so that he could learn how to cook a few meals on his own.  He decided to make Sauerbraten (this is close to the recipe he used) for his first dish, but he hit a slight snag.  The roast I bought was a little too big for the recipe so I told him he could improvise by doubling his recipe and cooking the roast in the slow cooker.  The meat came out perfectly  – so tender, it was falling apart.  He did a wonderful job!  It was such a treat to come home from work and have dinner waiting on me. I can’t wait to see what he does next!
